The Best Butter for Bulletproof Coffee

To truly make the perfect bulletproof coffee, you'll need a premium type of butter. It must be both grass-fed, organic, unsalted, and devoid of any additives/preservatives. Depending on where you live, finding a quality butter may be hard to come by. If anything you can try ordering it online, but be sure to also check out your local farmers markets and health food stores. I know from experience (living up in Canada) that quality butter is hard to come by, I personally drive down over the border to the USA and purchase about 10 lbs of Kerrygold grass-fed, unsalted butter on a regular basis.

By no means do you ever want to use a cheap butter. If you're making bulletproof coffee, it's for attaining optimal mental performance/losing weight and it can't be attained if you get the sub optimal butters. By deciding to go for a sub optimal butter, you'll be wasting your time as it may counter the benefits of MCT oil and coffee.

Some bulletproof coffee drinkers have tried experimenting with products to replace butter, using such products as ghee, heavy creams, or butters/creams from animals other then cows (goats/horses/oxen/yaks). As long the fat is of high quality, organic, unsalted, and grass-fed you should be fine and may experience better results. Safe experimentation is always recommended though.

Dave Asprey's book "Upgraded Chef: 12 Core Recipes to Supercharge Your Body & Brain" goes into greater detail, and I highly recommend it.
